Renaming an Excel Table with Imported Data
When you import data from some external location into Excel, you might face issue in renaming the table, as the table name in 'Design' > 'Table Name' might appear to be locked. This is due to the reason, that the data is still connected with its original source,
and it you might not have permissions to edit the source data.
So, in that case, you'll need to use some alternative method to edit the name from its defaable1' values.
You will need to disconnect the Excel (temporarily) to enable editing the name. You can use the following steps to rename the table in such cases:
1) Go to ‘File’ tab > and select ‘Options’ option at the bottom left corner.
2) In the ‘Excel Options’ pop-up window, select ‘Trust Center’ from bottom left, and then click on the ‘Trust Center Settings’ button.
3) In the ‘Trust Center’ pop-up window, select ‘External Content’ option from the left side pane, and under the Security Settings for Data Connection, select the ‘Disable all Data Connections’ radio button. Click 'Ok' for the Trust Center Windows, and then again click 'ok' for the Excel Options window.
4) Save the file, close and reopen the file to save the settings. Now when you reopen the file, you should be able to rename the table name.
These steps worked for me, hope these would prove beneficial for others as well. Do let me know in case there are any concerns/suggestions with these steps.
